“The Wind, the Sound” is a workbook, which extends and amplifies the work discussed in ”Technique of the Embouchure”, a work that has achieved great success.
We will find new exercises on vocalisation, fundamental exercises to work on the base of the air column and energy of the breath, and propose exercises on improving the embouchure and on refining the end of phrases with the use of harmonics. The length of breath and the use of legato playing are two new chapters with carefully selected works (often orchestral excerpts), which permits the flutist to play with a term comparable to that of the singers.
The last part deals with fundamental subjects such as support, vibrato, the column of air, the movement of the jaw, the timbre, nuances ... In the form of articles that this remarkable flutist and teacher, heir to the French school of flute, explores with enlightenment his great educational experience.
Le Souffle, le son is an exercise book which extends and amplifies the work covered in La Technique d'embouchure, a work which has achieved great success. Philippe Bernold, professor at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique de Paris, offers in a very fun form new exercises for the most part based on works from the soloist, chamber music and orchestral repertoire (with more than twenty excerpts) signed Bach, Mozart, Bizet, Reinecke, Prokofiev, Debussy, Dutilleux, Messiaen… We will find new vocalizations, fundamental exercises to work on the base of the air column and the energy of the breath, and we will approach the work of the mouthpiece and ends of sentences thanks to harmonic sounds. The length of the breath and the legato constitute two new chapters which allow the flautist to play with an expression comparable to that of the singers. Finally, the last part deals with subjects as fundamental as sustain, vibrato, air column, jaw movement, timbre, nuances... in the form of articles that this remarkable flautist and pedagogue, heir to the The French school of flute, explores in the light of its educational experience.
