Lo! Christ The Lord Is Born is actually the second coming of this carol. Elgar and his wife sent the work out as a part-song, Grete Malverne on a Rock, in 1897 as their Christmas card. The poet ShapcottWensley, librettist of The Banner of St George, set his words to the tune and it was published as this carol in 1909.
