Louis Vierne (1870–1937) raised the organ symphony to its stylistic zenith.


Symphony No. 5, the largest of Vierne’s six organ symphonies, was full of misprints in its first edition. Our edition takes the composer’s autograph as its principal source. Unlike previous editions, Helga Schauerte-Maubouet has also drawn on a fragmentary handwritten errata list as a secondary source, allowing her to verify Vierne’s late alterations to details in the autograph.

Her foreword also sheds light on the biographical background and explains the work’s genesis in great detail. Using previously unpublished letters, she has been able, for the first time, to provide exact dates for each movement.


루이 비에른(1870~1937)은 오르간 교향곡을 스타일적으로 정점에 올려놓았습니다.


비에른의 여섯 개의 오르간 교향곡 중 가장 규모가 큰 5번 교향곡은 초판에서 오타가 많았습니다. 본 판본은 작곡가의 자필 악보를 주요 자료로 삼았습니다. 이전 판본들과 달리, 헬가 샤우어테-모부엣은 단편적인 자필 오타 목록도 보조 자료로 활용하여 비에른이 자필 악보의 세부 사항을 후기에 수정한 부분을 검증했습니다.

또한 서문에서는 비에른의 전기적 배경을 조명하고 작품의 탄생 과정을 자세히 설명합니다. 특히, 이전에 공개되지 않았던 편지들을 활용하여 각 악장의 정확한 작곡 연도를 최초로 밝혀냈습니다.
