Bruch Scottish Fantasy Op.46 in Full Score
First performed and recorded in Berlin in 1880, Scottish Fantasy ranks among Max Bruch`s most enduring compositions. Dedicated to the virtuoso violinist Pablo de Sarasate, it was performed by Joseph Joachim at its premiere. Bruch`s composition reveals his romanticism, fluent scoring, and lifelong interest in folk music. Although the composer never visited Scotland, he acknowledges the country`s tradition of harp music by giving the instrument a prominent role.
Scored for violin and full orchestra, the work consists of a four-movement fantasy on Scottish folk tunes. Featured melodies include `Auld Rob Morris,` `The Dusty Miller,` `I`m Down for Lack of Johnnie,` and `Hey Tuttie Tatie.` This authoritative score is an unabridged reproduction of the original German edition.
