“Prélude á l’aprés-midi d’un faune”, often referred to as the first composition of the “modern” era, is one of Debussy’s most popular and frequently performed orchestral works. The piece comes down to us in an array of sources, and several important ones are drawn upon for the first time in Bärenreiter’s new scholarly-critical edition.


Most of the currently available editions are based on the first edition from 1895 which, however, contains many engraver errors. When the corresponding orchestral parts are also taken into consideration, countless discrepancies are revealed.


Bärenreiter’s Urtext edition incorporates readings of a printed copy of the score from c. 1908 which shows corrections and emendations by the composer. These important changes, found in no other source, include metronome markings, different pitches and additional notes, as well as added tempo and articulation markings, which all subtly enhance Debussy’s finely sculpted work. There is even a breath mark added to the famous solo flute passage which opens the work.


드뷔시의 작품 중에서도 가장 인기 있고 자주 연주되는 관현악곡 중 하나인 "목신의 오후 전주곡"은 종종 "근대" 시대의 첫 작품으로 불립니다. 이 곡은 다양한 판본으로 전해 내려오는데, 베렌라이터의 새로운 학술 비평판에서는 그중 몇 가지 중요한 판본을 처음으로 참고했습니다.


현재 구할 수 있는 대부분의 판본은 1895년 초판을 기반으로 하지만, 이 초판에는 많은 조판 오류가 포함되어 있습니다. 해당 관현악 파트보까지 고려하면 수많은 불일치가 드러납니다.


베렌라이터의 원전판은 작곡가의 수정 및 보완이 반영된 1908년경 인쇄본 악보를 참고했습니다. 다른 어떤 악보에서도 찾아볼 수 없는 이러한 중요한 변화에는 메트로놈 표시, 다른 음높이, 추가 음표는 물론 템포 및 아티큘레이션 표시까지 포함되어 있으며, 이 모든 것들이 드뷔시의 정교하게 다듬어진 작품을 미묘하게 더욱 돋보이게 합니다. 심지어 작품의 시작을 알리는 유명한 플루트 독주 부분에는 호흡 표시까지 추가되어 있습니다.
