The 19th century was not only the era of great forms, monumental symphonies and melodious sonatas, no, the Romantic composers proved to be versatile and highly imaginative on the field of little music pieces as well. Robert Schumann was a master of the character piece for "his" instrument, the piano. From thirty of such poetic miniatures, he selected thirteen in 1838 for his 'Scenes of Childhood', opus 15, the seventh, i.e. the one right in the middle, being 'Dreaming', the most famous among Schumann's compositions. It is a romantic gem the catchy melody of which will not get out of one's head. The beautiful setting contained in the present edition can be played also in a version for cello quartet for ensemble playing.


19세기는 위대한 형식, 기념비적인 교향곡, 선율적인 소나타의 시대였을 뿐만 아니라, 낭만주의 작곡가들은 작은 음악 작품 분야에서도 다재다능하고 상상력이 풍부한 것으로 나타났습니다. 로베르트 슈만(Robert Schumann)은 자신의 악기인 피아노의 캐릭터 곡의 대가였습니다. 그러한 시적 미니어처 30개 중에서 그는 1838년에 13개를 그의 '어린 시절의 장면'(Opus 15, 7번)으로 선택했습니다. 즉, 중앙에 있는 것이 슈만의 작곡 중 가장 유명한 '꿈꾸는 중'입니다. 귀에 쏙쏙 들어오는 멜로디가 머리에서 떠나지 않는 로맨틱한 보석이다. 현판에 포함된 아름다운 설정은 앙상블 연주를 위한 첼로 4중주 버전에서도 연주할 수 있습니다.


Schumann's Romantic gem from Scenes from Childhood has been arranged for string quartet and four cellos. "Wisely, Birtel has elected to transpose this short piece from the original F major into C major. This change takes advantage of the sonorous possibilities of the cello's C string, and greatly facilitates note-reading for young players...Cello teachers will be grateful for this thoughtful new addition to the cello-ensemble repertoire."--Strings magazine.
