프롬나드 콘서트의 마지막 밤은 빈 필의 신년음악회에 버금가는 범세계적인 음악이벤트이다. 특히 2000년은 13년간 BBC 심포니의 수장을 맡았던 앤드류 데이비스 경의 고별무대라는 점에서 보다 뜻 깊은 행사가 되었다. 차세대 유망주 힐러리 한이 모차르트의 바이올린 협주곡 4번을 협연하였고, 이 시대를 대표하는 드라마틱 소프라노 제인 이글렌이 뜨겁게 토해내는 ‘살로메’의 마지막 장면도 만날 수 있다. 예년과 마찬가지로 이 성대한 축제의 피날레를 장식하는 것은 로열 앨버트 홀을 가득 메운 관객들의 뜨거운 합창이다. 엘가의 위풍당당행진곡에 가사를 붙인 ‘희망과 영광의 나라로’를 비롯하여 ‘예루살렘’, ‘룰 브리타니아’와 같은 영국민의 애창곡들을 5.1채널 돌비 서라운드에서 뿜어져 나오는 6000명의 거대한 합창으로 만나게 된다.
