Der 1737 in Paris erschienene Erstdruck dieser Duos fur Bassinstrumente hat den Titel: "Petites Sonates / Suivies d`une Chaconne / Pour deux Baßons, Violoncelles, ou Violes. / Par Mr. Boismortier. / OEuvre soixantes sixieme."

Die gut gearbeiteten, spieltechnisch nicht allzu schwierigen Sonaten mussen nicht unbedingt von gleichartigen Bassinstrumenten ausgefuhrt werden. Gut klingen auch die Besetzungen Fagott/Violoncello, Fagott/Viola da gamba und Violoncello/Viola da gamba.
