In 1836 Chopin introduced the term "ballad" into piano music with the publication of his Ballad op. 23, although up to then it had only been used in literature and in vocal music. Indeed, all four of Chopin’s ballads have the character of a dramatic story: the musical thread is spun with increasing tension throughout the work, reaching a powerful climax at the end. Following the "Préludes", we have now thoroughly re-evaluated this edition and revised it to include the latest scholarly findings. The most significant ones are documented in the printed critical apparatus.
1836년 쇼팽은 「발라드」 Op.23을 출판하며 “발라드”라는 용어를 피아노 음악에 들여왔는데, 그때까지 이 말은 문학과 성악에서만 쓰였습니다. 실제로 쇼팽의 발라드 4곡은 모두 극적인 이야기의 성격을 지닙니다. 음악의 실타래는 작품 전체에 걸쳐 점점 긴장을 더해 가며 풀려 나가고, 끝에 이르러 강렬한 절정에 도달합니다. 「전주곡」에 이어 이번에는 이 판을 철저히 재검토하고 최신 연구 성과를 반영해 개정했습니다. 그중 가장 중요한 내용은 인쇄된 비평 주석에 정리되어 있습니다.
