The cycle of love songs called Cypresses, which Dvorak composed in his youth, were re-written for string quartet many years later. In this way, a suite of twelve short quartet pieces, full of intimate lyricism, came into being. The pieces were published first after the composer`s death and the critical edition of the parts for this composition appeared in print in the 80s of the 20th century.

During his youth, Dvorak wrote a cycle of love songs entitled Cypresses, which he rewrote years later for string quartet, thus producing a suite of twelve short quartet pieces full of intimate lyricism. The pieces were not published until after the composer's death. The quartet parts in this edition are published in the Complete Critical Edition of Works by Antonin Dvorak.
