Clarke's SONATA FOR VIOLA represents the peak of Rebecca Clarke's compositional career, being well-received upon its premiere in 1919 and tying for first place in a composition competition with a piece by Ernest Bloch. The composer supplies a quote from Alfred de Musset's "Le Nuit de mai" - "Poet, take up your lute: the wine of youth this night is fermenting in the veins of God." Includes solo parts for both Viola and Cello.
