Grażyna Bacewicz dedicated her Quartetto for four violins to conservatory students. From 1949, when this quartet was written, it became a staple of music schools and academies. This three-movement composition, lasting under 15 minutes, surprises the listener with its textural richness, somewhat folkloric character and allusions to Prokofiev and Shostakovich, as pointed out by Małgorzata Gąsiorowska.
